October 5, 1946 - April 25, 2021
Our accomplishments in life are not always tangible. Vicki’s laugh, her quick wit, her sense of adventure, her kindness, her loving and accepting nature touched everyone with whom she interacted. She will be missed and she will continue to live in the hearts and memories of family and friends near and far. Vicki Dale Bunney was born in 1946 and raised in Nebraska. In the ‘60s she found herself in Washington D.C. working as a computer programmer for the CIA. When her brother announced he was getting married, she traveled with her mom and sister to Germany for the event. She stayed in Europe, traveled, fell in love and married George, a friend of her brother. After living in Germany for a few years, Iran was the next place she called home. She and her husband lived and worked there until the strife and upheaval in the late 70’s of the revolution brought them back to the U.S. where Vicki and her husband parted ways. She returned to Washington D.C. and began work at a new company where she met and fell in love with her second husband David. They formed their own consulting firm that dealt primarily with information management for the Navy. In the late ‘80s, they decided they’d had enough of DC, packed up their belongings and moved to California. Pollock Pines was close enough to the mountains for her husband and close enough to the water for Vicki. Both were very active in the community of Pollock Pines and involved in the genesis of the Pollock Pines - Camino Community Center. When her husband became ill, Vicki’s love and attention focused on taking care of him. She also became involved with a group that focused on keeping the community safe from the forest fires that threaten the area every year. Her husband’s time on earth ended in 2010 and Vicki’s work with the Fire Safe Council ended shortly afterwards. The last years of Vicki’s life brought her her own set of health problems. Brittle bones and her mother’s habit of not looking where she was going, resulted in broken bones that never healed appropriately and prevented her from working. She sold her house and moved in with her good friend Charley who has taken care of her as her journey became more and more difficult. The last series of health events left her bed ridden. She gave up on her broken body and embarked on her next adventure on April 25, 2021.
